How do we get to the FUNk House from the Airport?

We organise a shuttle bus for you. Please call us on 1800 247600 (toll free) when you arrive, the cost to you is $3 per person (the bus company charges $12, we pay the remaining $9). The Shuttle Bus operates between 5am and 8.30pm. If you arrive before the reception opens you can call the shuttle company direct on (02) 9661 1170 and arrange a pick up with them. If you arrive after 8.30pm you will need to arrange your own transport. There are some airport shuttle buses operating until 12am, they charge $12 per person. Our office hours are 7am to 10pm (Mon-Sat) and 8am-8pm (Sun), if you need to check-in outside these times please call when you arrive - we have a night manager on duty over night who will check you in.

How do I get to the FUNkHouse from the bus station?

From Central Station take the train (platform 24) to KINGS CROSS (only 7mins). Turn left out of the train station, and walk along Darlinghurst road. We are 50 metres up on the left hand side.

What is it like staying in a Backpackers Hostel, its my first time .....?

Staying in a Backpackers hostel is an amazing experience.

The vast majority of people in the FUNk House Backpackers hostel will be in exactly the same situation as you and this gives you a great opportunity to share experiences, exchange ideas, find travel buddies, and often find friends for life.  Don't forget, our STAFF know how you feel and are here to help in anyway we can too!

The idea behind backpacker hostels is to provide cheap, clean, simple accommodation for people who are trying to save their money to see as much of a country (or city) as they can.  The accommodation is simple and generally people only spend time in their rooms while sleeping and during the day out exploring the sites of the city.  

The FUNk house backpackers offers dormitory (sharing) rooms and private rooms which are Double and Twin Rooms. 

The most common type of room for the independent traveller is a 'dormitory' (or 'shared') room in which you will meet and share with other fellow travellers.  Here at the FUNk House our dorm rooms are only 3 and 4 bed which is pleasantly small (other hostels usually have between 3 - 10 beds per room) if you are travelling with friends you can even book out the entire room.

What if I am by myself? Will I be lonely? How will I meet people?

One of the things we are very proud of is our staff and atmosphere. We aim to provide you with a home away from home and not just simply a bed making you feel welcome for all of your stay. We have 2 large communal areas, firstly being the TV room with a huge plasma screen, DVD player and all FOX/SKY channels and plenty of tables and seats for you to kick back and relax, read a book and meet new people. Secondly we have our rooftop garden with stunning views of the city skyline. Here is where we hold the famous BBQ every Wednesday night which is the best opportunity for you to meet new people, with a cold beer, couple of snags (sausages) and a burger while watching some of the most amazing sunsets anywhere in the world.

As we are located in Kings Cross (the party centre of Sydney) there are lots of bars and clubs to choose from.  At the FUNk House we employ an entertainment manager who organises different activites every day. One day you may be helping yourself to a FREE bar tab and the next you maybe going for a FREE meal and entertainment.

How far is FUNk House Backpackers from Sydney City Centre?

We are situated in Kings Cross which is a 20 minute walk from all the major attractions like the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Darling Harbour and the city centre.

Alternatively you can take advantage of the award winning public transport system in Sydney which can get you to the city centre in under 4 minutes.

Kings cross is an exceptionally well built up area offering supermarkets, banks, post office, shops, take away restaurants, bars, clubs, cafes, etc.  You'll find everything really is literally on your doorstep.

How do I get a bank account in Australia?

If you are coming to Australia on a working holiday visa you may want to open a bank account - particularly if you intend to work, so you can be paid.  It's really easy to do.

There are number of banks that offer good banking services. The main banks are Commonwealth, ANZ, Westpac and National.  If you are here for 1 year then it will help if you open an account within 6 weeks of arriving. 

Most of the big banks have stores in Kings Cross and all you need to do is walk into one of them with your passport and visa and they can set you up there and then.

How do I get a Tax File Number TFN

If you are planning to work in Australia then you will need a Tax File Number (TFN). This is required by employers to pay tax on your behalf. 

A TFN takes up to 3 weeks to process and be delivered (via postal service) once you have applied. You will require a postal address when you apply.

If you have booked to stay at the FUNk House then you are more than welcome to use our address. You can apply online for your TFN or by visiting the a Tax Office. Click here for more informtaion and to apply online.

What do I get for breakfast?

We offer FREE breakfast every day for our guests.

Breakfast is 'self serve' between 6.30am - 10.00am and there are a variety of options to choose from. We offer bread (3 varieties), jam and marmalade, peanut butter, cereals, milk, tea and coffee and plenty of it.

We have a fully equipped kitchen which is open from 06.30am - 22.00pm every day. All equipment and utensils are provided free of charge.

Can I park my car at the FUNk House Backpackers?

Unfortunately, we do not have a car park to offer our guests.

There are, however, two options for parking:

1. A security car park located 2 minutes walk away from the hostel.  All FUNkhouse guests get a discount off the daily rate (just come to reception to get your parking card stamped).

2. There is some free and unlimited street parking located about 4 minutes walk from the FUNk house Backpackers.

Normally we would suggest you come to the hostel to check in, and we will direct you to these parking locations.
